Trump Welcomes Relatives of Attacked Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Devastating Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump told the press. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Reaction
Attendees gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in the capital.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the leader of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Officials have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident caused the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and cease granting visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader the governor mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with distinction, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
