Tottenham Boss Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Real Fans'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Tension on the Manager

Spurs fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be true Tottenham fans" by manager Frank.

Tottenham conceded two scores in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, marking their 10th Premier League home loss of the year.

But the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' next goal when the keeper gave away possession well beyond his box.

He came out to handle a long ball and took the ball near the touchline.

But, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian turned and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 metres.

Seconds afterwards when the ball went to Vicario once more, a number of Spurs fans booed him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.

One of those booing sessions really angered Frank.

"I heard a few of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and jeered after, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals cannot be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Alright jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with one another moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second-half showing.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "totally preventable".

"I certainly appreciate the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the part the keeper is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.

"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive goal."

'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Match

Italy international the keeper is in his third season with Spurs.

He said following the game that he had to take the feedback.

"The second score was a error of my own, I take accountability for it," he said.

"The intent was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a poor way. It was an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He said being booed "is part of the game".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It is on us to remain increasingly composed, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. This match is a bad loss and it is tough to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Line'

Despite Vicario's error, it was not an easy goal for Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the second longest-range Premier League goal of the campaign – after Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly also came on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to target.

10 seconds passed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments following the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was away from the box for ages," he remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes sparked a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a bit of additional opportunity. After that it was all about trying to achieve the right contact and get it on target. I had a positive sense, as soon as it left my foot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'

Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank

While Vicario's mistake dominated coverage, this was an overall bad performance for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

This was their tenth home defeat of the year in the league, a shared club statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against the manager's old side the Bees and champions the Reds to come prior to the end of the year.

Only one of those wins have come since Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have suffered another match. Each fixture has a unique story, today we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can utilize to develop."

Spurs have been defeated in four straight at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

Furthermore they are recording 9.5 attempts and three point two shots on target per game in the division – their poorest averages on record in a one campaign (dating back to 2003-04).

Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He's got accept the criticism," Murphy said. "He's taken a high profile role at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.

"The performances at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
