The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a young woman harboring several personalities inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct souls, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, while additional clips depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to follow on digital storefronts.
