Suspected Stalker Questioned: 'However Suppose I Could Be Madeleine?'
A woman charged with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a voicemail message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has consistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the tribunal heard communication data and information obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most publicized investigations and remains open.
'I Don't Want Money'
One phone message, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm overweight and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I know what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail expressed: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I am she? Then what? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I do not need money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the message continued.
The tribunal was informed that by means of electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a bid to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, an intelligence analyst with the police force who collated the data, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
That day Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court learned Mrs Spragg struck up a association via internet with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in the county in December 2024.
Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had contacted through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be treated respectfully in the time preceding the appearance to Rothley, that area, in December 2024.
The court was told communications between the two accused, in that autumn, discussing attempting to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We must take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the appearance to their residence, the defendant sent a message which expressed: "We are sitting adjacent to the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark resembling investigators. I desired to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings continues.
