Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Concerns.
'Significant concern' for England after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.
Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems after leaving the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.
Atkinson pulled up with his hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.
Team management reported the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and was to take time off the field to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".
The concluding match of the tour at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.
The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman with an abdominal strain on the current trip.
A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.
His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.
He was left out for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.
Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 with the bat being one of only three England players to reach double figures.
After bowling one over at the end of day one, he came back on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
However, on the final ball of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.
Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test after being left out of the third.
